About Smarty Arty

It's hard to believe now but back in late 2009, I had a little idea. It came from 3 things. My love of new ideas and craft, my love of helping people, and my love of my childcare business.
As the universe would have it, my circumstances changed and it pushed me directly to this little idea.
With a few family personal issues, my FDC business was a little too much for my family at the time, so to be able to support them in their time of need, I sadly said goodbye to my underschool age children, this left me both heartbroken but it also threw me towards my little idea.
One day a month or so later, my coordinator came to visit me, not to check up on my childcare business but to see how things were going for me. I had some little examples my idea and over coffee we discussed them, she gave me so much strength to expand and do more, she told me she thought that educators would love them and so I expanded my little idea.
I first held a easter workshop with my scheme, and told them about my craft packs, to my suprise a lot of them ordered them on the night, and from there I continued to grow my products and ideas.
My business grew by word of mouth, I was so happy. Then I realised I needed to be able to have somewhere that people could go to buy my products, so our first website was made and designed.
We out grew this in 6 weeks, then with the help of  My Work Australia. we started to work on our second website. About a year later we up graded out shop system, and with the help of My Work we have continued to expand our little website ever since. We currently have over 700 products and are looking to double our product range in the next 12-18 months.

About Me.

My name is Bec Perkins. I have three wonderful boys, Kurt age 12, Noah age 10 and Jude age 4.
I am married to a wonderful man Kim. I am grateful for all the support my family have given me throughout this journey.
If someone had of said to me at 17 that by 23 you would be married with a house and 2 small children, I would have thought they were mad. I had a not so pleasant childhood and becuase of that I was not keen to have my own children, but that was not obviously meant to be as even against all odds I had two beautiful boys, and this changed my life forever.
Children can teach you so much, about the world, about yourself, more than I ever knew, and when the time came for them to go off to school I was lonely, sad, I missed having the bundles of joy around. So while talking to a lady I had met while taking Noah to the C and K she suggested I look into Family Day Care, as this is what she did. Family What????
I had never heard of this before.......... Why had I never heard of this before???/
I sounds great, and she put me in touch with her scheme and within a month I had interviewed my first parents.
I loved Family Day Care. I it awesome. The best job in the world. You get to be a kid again, and considering I didn't have a great childhood, this was perfect for me. The kids and I used to explore, create and find new and exciting things everyday. We were also there for the boys being able to pick them up and drop them off at school everyday, it felt natural for me.
As anything does, I watched as Family Day care evolved as we took on planning and paperwork, I loved looking with the kids on what else we can learn together, how can we do that. In the meantime my cousin Leigh joined Family Day Care and our little network grew. The children all became close and together we used to plan out some events to do with the children.
Don't get me wrong, like anything we had challenging days too but this is part of it and I loved every minute of it.
Today I am 34. And I still think Family Day Care is the best job, but I also love my current job too. I still get to play, and I also get to help lots of educators all over Australia with their planning and paperwork and new ideas to do with their children.
